The Pontiff has decided to take up a new hobby – woodworking. He had so much fun making tables from the cedar fencing, that he’s branching out.
He decided to start with some fairly simple projects, using wood he had on hand. This is his first box – it’s about a foot wide:
He used some wood that was left over from rebuilding the porch steps, plus a bit of walnut for the corner pieces.
For his next project, he made a cute little box from some poplar. This one is only 6 or 7″ wide:
It has walnut for the bottom:
The top is made from a single piece of wood, which he shaped so that it’s deeper in the center to fit into the box:
And it’s planed on top to give it a curve:
He’s having lots of fun with it, and it’s keeping him very busy. I never know what new thing I’ll find when I come home from work.
He took me to a woodworking shop a couple of days ago. He said it was “like a yarn shop for woodworkers”.

Wow, those are beautiful. He has a real talent/skill. And you could put yarn in the bigger box!
Wonderful! Can you get him to start making wheels and spindles too?
Larry has made incredible progress in such a short time. Both boxes are wonderful!
The Pontiff is a clever fellow! What lovely boxes. Now can he devise a decorative stash storage system? That would nicely meld both your hobbies…
Isn’t he fabulous?!
Wow, he’s that good after just a few projects?!
Has he experimented with shawl pins yet?

Aren’t those nice! My DH likes a tool store like I like a yarn shop too.
I’m sure this slope is no more slippery than any other….
Those are lovely!
The boxes are beautifully done. His analogy brought a huge grin to my face. I’m so glad he’s found his “yarn!”
Wow. Those are beautiful! What Jill said!
The boxes are so beautiful! I have a weakness for boxes. There has to be a box for each thing, and a thing for each box.
Very cute!
