Blue Monkey Progress

Blue Monkey SockI’m finally in the home stretch on my first Monkey sock. Well, it’s technically a Monkey-like sock. I did a picot edge ala Margene – this is truly an inspired touch. I really didn’t care for the ribbing on the original pattern, but the picot edge is perfect. Otherwise, I was going to make the sock according to the pattern – but after I did a couple of repeats, I decided that I didn’t like how the purl stitches looked with this yarn, so I frogged it and am redoing it with knits instead of purls. It makes a less distinctive pattern, but with this yarn, I like it better. And as long as I’ve already made a bunch of modifications, I think I’ll do a round toe instead of a wedge toe. What the heck – I’m feeling radical.

Aren’t the blues lovely? It’s Trekking XXL – a gift from Heather.

And if you need a few smiles today:  On Tuesday, Susan was telling us about a couple of photos on ICanHasCheezburger that made her laugh out loud. I finally remembered to look for them today, and had a good laugh too (the look on the dog’s face is priceless).  But it was hard for me to move on from today’s photo, which made me laugh even more.

The socks look great and I think someone wrote up a pattern for purl free Monkeys.
