Ode to Knitting Daily

Most of you probably already get the Knitting Daily newsletter from Interweave Press. But if by chance you don’t, I’d highly recommend it – or at least suggest checking out their website occasionally. Their Knitting Daily Galleries are the greatest thing ever! They show the sample garments from Interweave Knits, modeled by staff members (including one of our very own former SLC SnB grrls). It’s amazing how different the same garment looks on women of different sizes and shapes, even when their bust measurements are similar. It also helps to see how the same item looks with positive ease and negative ease, and there are often some helpful tips on how to modify that particular garment for your own shape.

Sometimes the galleries change my idea about a particular garment – usually because I didn’t care for the fit on the model in the magazine, but I like it when I see it on someone else. And sometimes it just reinforces my thought that it’s not the right item for me. But the best thing is that if it’s an item I’d like to make, I can see what kind of ease I prefer, and whether I’d like to make certain modifications to make it fit better.

An important thing to note: The “Gallery” tab at the top of the Knitting Daily web page is NOT the correct link – that goes to galleries of items knitted by readers or submitted for pattern requests. To get to the Knitting Daily Galleries from their main page, look for the “galleries” link in the right-hand column below the “knitting help” box.

I am way late in seeing this but thanks for the shout out! The galleries are sure fun to do–except for the part when I have to put my measurements on the web for all to see and let everyone see me in sweaters that are way too short/small. But all the same, it is fun.
