Last week at SnB, Susan, Margene and I were talking about how much we were into making sweaters lately. And how many sweaters’ worth of yarn we had in our stashes. Susan decided we should make a pact to make one sweater a month next year. And that they should be adult sweaters, made for ourselves. None of this knitting for others stuff.
After Margene and I picked ourselves off the floor and stopped laughing, we gave it some serious thought. Maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad idea! We’ve definitely been feeling the sweater love lately.
Susan wanted to limit it to starting and finishing one sweater each month, but since Margene has a Bohus sweater queued up, and that will probably take more than a month, we talked her into loosening that rule a bit. The details haven’t been finalized, but the general idea will be 12 sweaters in 2009. They can be sleeveless, but they should be adult-sized, and preferably for ourselves.
Yes, we’re nuts. But you already knew that.
Stay tuned for more details, and a Ravelry group coming soon, for those of you crazy enough to join the fun.
So what patterns am I thinking about? There’s still that retro top I have a hankering to make. I definitely plan on doing a plain funnel-neck long-sleeved pullover from that blue Silky Wool I bought, and I might also do a sleeveless plain shell with a funnel neck or crew neck. I’d also like to try something out of one of those Japanese pattern books I bought.
Some of the other patterns I’m thinking about are the following, in totally random order. Yes, I know there’s more than twelve here. What do you think? Anything you think I should or shouldn’t plan on making next year?

Susan tried to underhandedly add me to the list. Hmpf.
Most of the yarn I have in stash is DK weight or less. Can you honestly see me cranking thru Alice Starmore’s Henry VIII, plus…well….. anything else? And since I’m on a knit-from-stash moratorium until the house here in SLC sells…… Not much available in the way of new sweater stash.
Maybe you could have a tiny-needles subgroup? Only 6 sweaters on size 3s or less?
You won’t suck me in with this one. I’m already having dreams of Silky Wool (really, I dreamt about it all last night) thanks in part to you and Margene! 😉
Nice list. I think you may have given me my silky wool vest/ top.
Thank you for being so crazy.
Your list is at least twice the length of mine. Any would be fabulous. I’m still not sure I’ve picked myself up off the floor.
Well, it’ll be entertaining to watch. 🙂
Nuts doesn’t even begin to cover the insanity of this idea. It will be fun to watch, though.
You guys are my idols.
You guys are nuts. Srsly.
Wow, and I thought I had problems planning which twelve to make! Lots of nice stuff on that list, though.
Hmmm… I may try to do 6 next year… that might be doable for me. (That also means more yarn purchases since I only have two garments worth of yarn). One is for the husband though.
You’d be shocked at how many of the sweaters you’ve listed are on my “maybe” list. Are we the same person?
This is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
I will be watching this one closely! If I did not commit to knitting such huge pieces I might tag along. But I like huge Shetland and like shawls. No way it can be even close to one a month.
