The Good Stuff

While the travel itself was no fun, the weekend in Michigan was great.

DH enjoyed seeing his relatives, and we had lots of parties. Saturday was the Bat Mitzvah, followed by a sit-down lunch at the Shul. In the evening, there was a dinner at a Chinese restaurant for family and close friends. Sunday was the big Bat Mitzvah party – 100 kids and 63 adults at a nightclub called “The Bank” in Mt. Clemens. There was great food, catered by Crank’s Catering, a DJ, and an open bar. Everyone had a blast! It was an interesting crowd – mostly lawyers. The “poor relations” from out of town were probably the only ones in the room who make less than $200K per year.

Monday we toured the “old neighborhood” the family used to live in, and stopped at Buddy’s Pizza in Farmington Hills for lunch. The boys said the pizza was exactly as good as they remembered. Normally I’m a thin-crust pizza girl, but I can certainly appreciate a thicker crust, as long as it’s a good one. And this was great! It’s a pan pizza that’s either square (4 pieces) or rectangular (8 pieces). The crust is light, and has an awesome thin, crisp edging from the pan. You can see what it looks like here. That pizza alone was almost worth all of the airport hassle.

The boys were disappointed that we didn’t get to Sander’s for ice cream with hot fudge, but we did make our own Vernors floats.

We even had great weather, for Michigan. The sky was only partly cloudy instead of perpetually gray, and we got to see some blue sky. The humidity was not too bad either, which made for a very pleasant weekend.

We’re already looking forward to doing it again in three years.

I’m glad that important parts of the trip were good! Hmm – what do you consider “not bad” humidity?

  2. Carrie says:

Sounds like a fun time. Me? I’m all about the thick crust. The thicker the better. I loves me some bread and cheese, in any form.

  3. Stacey says:

I’m with you. N.Y. style unless the thick crust is tasty. Want some of the humidity from here? I’ll gladly send it your way!

    Any mosquitoes??

Sounds like a good party and fun family time!
