FO: Traveling Buds Cardigan

OK, so you’ve already seen it. But now I have some modeled shots.

Traveling Buds cardigan

Pattern: Traveling Buds Cardigan, by Melissa Leapman (scroll down on page for pattern)
Yarn: Cascade 220, 4 1/2 skeins, “Cordovan”
Needles: US 6 and 7 / 4.0 and 4.5 mm
Ravelry: Project page, pattern page

Modifications: I made were to make the ribbing at the neck 1″ instead of 1.5″, added an inch to the length, and made 7 buttonholes the length of the front instead of just 3 at the top. There were a few other slight changes that were really just because my gauge wasn’t quite the same as the pattern’s.

There are more details and photos on my project page (link above).

I’m happy with it, and like that it has sort of a classic vintage look to it. I’m glad I made the extra buttonholes, because it adds much more versatility to how I can wear it.

The buttonband is very interesting. On the button side, it’s all garter stitch. On the buttonhole side, it’s garter stitch to the buttonholes, then twisted rib for the remaining half:

I like it. Besides adding interest and coordinating with the twisted rib at the hem and cuffs, it tightens up the band so that it doesn’t flare out.  You can get a better look at how it looks when it’s it buttoned here.
