In the Garden

The lettuce harvest is getting pretty slim right now. I think I’m done with the salad-sized harvests, and am down to just a few leaves for sandwiches. But more has been planted and hopefully there will be salads again in a few weeks.

But it was a lovely little harvest today – a beautiful head of broccoli, some delicious carrots, and the first two tomatoes of the season:

carrots, broccoli and tomatoes

There may not be many more tomatoes for a while, except perhaps for some cherry tomatoes, since it’s been so hot that the tomatoes aren’t setting fruit. But at least some got started before the heat set in.

We didn’t have carrots this year and yours look marvelous! I’m worried about the poor tomatoes this year. Good idea to plant more lettuce.

Do you shade your tomatoes? We cover ours around June 1 and it makes all the difference. They went in late this year but they’re still setting fruit. (I was worried!)
