I haven’t ever attempted to put a zipper in a sweater, partly because I’ve been a bit intimidated by the whole idea.
But I came across this tutorial that uses blocking wires to stabilize the edges of the sweater as you sew in the zipper – looks like a great idea!
Maybe I’ll give it a try one of these days.
Honestly that looks much harder than just decently basting the thing in. BUT if it will work for you, go for it. You can put in a zipper, you’ve got mad skills. Put that on your list of things to do.
I’m not even clicking that link. I’m with redsilvia. Baste it in.
What? You have not put in a zipper? You must. No, you first. Srsly. I insist.
Seriously, if I can manage to do it, anyone can – especially someone with your skill set! I agree with basting it in.
o.O DO. EET.
Yep. Forget the blocking wires and baste it in! You’ll be just fine.
That is a great tutorial. I always shy away from patterns with zippers but after reading through the tutorial I think I might be able to do it.
But, I don’t think I will let the cat help 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
Maybe it’s a good idea, but I just don’t like the look of zippers. I’ve had success just basting it in place. I also like to put ribbon over the zipper to hide it from view.
Socks don’t need zippers. ;^)
