Cookie Made Me Do It

After I mentioned that I’d like to make the Winterberry Pullover (Pierrot pattern 210-211-22) again with the double-strands of laceweight mohair as called for in the original pattern, Cookie commented that it was a good time to buy from Japan. I hadn’t really even thought about actually buying the Pierrot yarn, but I was really surprised when I looked at the cost. The yarn is only around $4.30 per ball, and economy shipping (slow boat from Japan) was only about $5.00. I figured for that price, I could take a chance on it. So I ordered it, and it arrived in exactly 4 weeks.

I have swatched, and am ready to cast on.

There might also have been an accidental ordering of yarn to make a big old sweatshirt-type sweater. Berroco Remix, in the colorway “Patina”. It’s a gray tweed that has a brown undertone, and brown/white/black flecks. I really like the color, and love how comfy my Beatnik sweater is, so I’m pretty excited about this one.

And, well… there might also have been a purchase of some Noro Silk Garden. But since it was a discontinued colorway, I really had no choice but to buy it while there was still some to be bought. Right? I am planning on entrelac, either a large scarf or slightly scaled-down Lady Eleanor stole.

Of course, I already have a shawl and sweater on the needles.

But then again, the Knitting Daily newsletter I got on Wednesday was titled “Don’t be a knitting monogamist”, and to “start as many new projects as you can”.

Thy will be done.

Sadly, I’m not sure how much knitting time I’ll be getting in the near future. The Pontiff was (in his own words) “stupid, stupid, stupid”, and had his first-ever power tool accident (a run-in with a compound miter saw). While it could have been much, much worse, it’s bad enough.

He’ll be having surgery on Monday to reconnect some tendons in his hand. Fortunately, the injury was to his left hand and he’s right-handed, but there are a lot of things you can’t really do well without two hands, like put on your shoes and socks, put toothpaste on the toothbrush, put on or take off t-shirts, drive a car, or shovel snow. So I get to play valet, chauffeur, mom, nursemaid, and handyman. We have a major winter storm predicted for this weekend, so I guess I”ll be out doing a lot more snow removal. At least the storm shouldn’t be as bad as what’s predicted for the East coast.

I’ll spare you the graphic photos, but let’s just say that his hand pretty much looked like his glove. I’m going to make him hang the glove over his workbench as a reminder.

Mangled glove

Guess he won’t be drumming with his band any time too soon. Or playing racquetball. But he’s got a good surgeon, and hopefully he’ll end up with full functionality.

    Owwwwwww again.
Love those yarns and the slow boat from Japan. Good thing yarn doesn’t go bad. 😀

Smith and I are sending many good healing vibes to L and will do anything we can to help (either him or you!). There must be something about mid-winter that discombobulates our thinking forcing us to cast on an unusual numbers of projects. Here’s to good knitting and a puny storm!

  3. Carrie#K says:

OUCH. One thing for sure, he’s not going to be taking up knitting during his recovery.

Knitting monogamy is a sin. A sin! Go forth and cast on. Quickly! Before Cookie makes you do something else…..

  4. Chris says:

YIKES!! I’m really, really glad it wasn’t worse.

  5. Caroline aka FiberTribe says:

OWWW. Please give the Pontiff my best regards for quick healing. and you take it easy, too. Snow shoveling can wreak havoc on backs. Can’t wait to see the new knits. What pattern are you using for the Remix??

  6. Heather N says:

My best to the P. He needs that thumb, poor baby!

  7. Marilyn says:

Hope the surgery is completely successful.

  8. Cookie says:

Where’s the blog button? :p I hope I’m not getting blamed for all of that, btw.

I hope the surgery goes well and that things return to normal quickly.

  9. Susan says:

So sorry to hear about L. Let us know if you need anything!

  10. Stacey says:

I call it the year of Cookie Made Me Do It! Sending healing thoughts to the Pontiff and patience for you. 😀 I think I about drove everyone crazy with the floppy paw.

  11. redsilvia says:

Oh no! I just saw that L has a booboo! I’m sending him healing thoughts and tendon growing vibes. And for you, maybe I’ll bring you some wine since that helps most things 😉

    Take care you two.

  12. jill says:

I so hope he is back in the saddle, so to speak. How scary for you both.

  13. Laurie says:

OW. Hope the attachments went well. That’s a bunch of PT, also.
